The RSA ideology and history

RSA is all about the production of innovative, creative and fresh drum 'n bass music. Each member has set up his own studio space where music is made or spun, or both. Hence we apply the term Reactor studios and not studio. The studios are spread all over Amsterdam and each has it's very own distinctive features and meaning to our collective name. Although there is a central studio where the other studios emerged from, no studio is any more or less important than the others these days. Each has it's own goals, distinctive collaborations producing, and specific locations concerning various methods of music production and DJ'ing being applied.

Methods of drum 'n bass production have varied over the years. As novice teenagers most of us started out with the then more popular method of tracking. Gather samples and write them down in a giant matrix controlled by letters and hexadecimal commands, most of us still believe this method was the most empowering way of production, both in terms of swiftness and control. After the millennium most of us slowly started to say goodbye to trackers for good and started using more professional audio software. The RSA studios started to get the look of professional studios as well, and hardware was more adapted. This being said, RSA is in no terms shy of the digital revolution and does support for instance the idea of exchanging a whole studio for a simple laptop. Still, we're suckers when it comes to hardware and analogue sounds as well and we leave the choice of sound and production up to each member individually. As long as the sounds stay fresh and move people's feet, we really don't care. We're existing like we continued to exist in the past years, and nobody ever tried to keep RSA down since we never tried to do so with anyone. All in all, we're solely here to express.

In 2003 RSA's already affiliated Phuture-T and Splinter started serious drum 'n bass spinning in Amsterdam, playing at various parties and lifting the drum 'n bass spirit nationwide to higher levels. As RSA is an outlet which is striving to expand the drum 'n bass spirit where and whenever, the guys decided to become RSA's first resident DJ's, making RSA also a DJ outlet to provide professional drum 'n bass DJ's around the country. Party organizers are free to contact us and have a taste of what cream our residents can provide them. This also resulted in pushing RSA propaganda outside the internet, giving us only more plans to realize in the coming future.

RSA's artists have mostly known each other for a long time, where Drome & Grits have continuously formed RSA's backbone, and with Splinter & Phuture-T joining, RSA turned officially into a solid dnb crew. When former 2079-e member Logikz from Sweden joined us in Amsterdam, he became RSA's first foreign member, turning RSA from that point into an international collective of drum 'n bass artists. Basically, if you drew RSA in a timetable, the amount of solid ground under our feet has grown non-stop.

The RSA website itself started in the summer of '99 as an experiment. Mainly because knowledge had to be obtained of how to actually create a website, and after making an idea of what RSA could represent on the net, slowly the site started to get form and was put up in August '99 mainly for friends. In time RSA started to get recognition, began participating with other artists from the net, and from then things only started to get more serious. Now, years and a (heavily needed) redesign further thanks to Scienide from Breakbeat Terrorism (he's only credited here, big up!), RSA continues it's quest like we did before; bringing the drum 'n bass spirit to the people who seek it. Providing high quality music which is free to obtain, and information about dnb to learn from and understand, RSA is both an expression as well as a map for the lover of drum 'n bass and jungle.
